Acid Reflux - Avoid Exercising during between 10 am to 2 pm

Acid reflux is a sign of a deeper imbalance in the body. Ayurveda* believes that ailments related to Acid reflux, GERD, and Heartburn are mostly related to Pitta ie the bioenergy related to the Fire element. Ayurveda principles suggest that good health is when the five elements within the body are in balance and harmony with each other. Ayurveda also believes that 10 AM and 2 PM is the Pitta time** of the day. Exercise generates heat in the body. Strenuous exercise, in the afternoons, especially during Summers may generate excess heat in the system which could aggravate Pitta which in turn could aggravate digestive disorders related to Heart Burn, Acid Reflux, and GERD.


*Ayurveda is one of the oldest health systems in the world which originated in India more than 5000 years ago. Also known as the sister of Yoga, Ayurveda believes that most diseases originate with imbalances in the digestive system. Ayurveda believes that balance between the elements of Nature within the body leads to health and imbalance leads to disease.

** Each of the three humors has particular timings when they are more prominent within the 24-hour cycle, a principle which is studied as the circadian rhythm and chronobiology in modern times. This concept and understanding were known in Ayurveda for a few thousand years.
